Services at Kitchens and Interiors

Kitchens and Interiors is a valuable source of information for kitchen and bathroom design and we encourage you to take advantage of our services.  Our experienced staff will measure your rooms for cabinetry, vanities, trim and stair parts, or supply you with design sheets, and when you complete your plan, provide a cost estimate.

Measurement Services

Kitchens and Interiors will always measure your room, countertop or design area before ordering to ensure accuracy and fit.

For the Do-it-Yourselfers

To measure an existing kitchen,

  • Start in one corner, and, using a steel measuring tape, measure along the wall to the first window or door opening.  Note the measurement to the trim around the door or window.  A graphing sheet is recommended for this process.
  • Measure to the opposite side of the trim, note that measurement and continue around the perimeter of the room in this manner.

To check your accuracy, total the measurements you have taken for each wall and compare the results with wall-to-wall measurements.

  • Locate and mark the drain, water supply and gas lines.
  • Locate all electrical outlets and switches and all heating and air conditioning registers.
  • Measure the floor-to-ceiling height of each wall area. If there is a difference, check the floor and ceiling levels and determine the reason.
  • Measure from the floor to the bottom of the window sills.
  • Then measure from the bottom of the sill to the top of the trim above the window.

To check the accuracy of your measurements, determine the distance from the top of the trim to the ceiling and compare the total of these measurements with the floor to ceiling height.

For a new bathroom vanity give us your measurements, budget and lifestyle needs and let us do the shopping for you.  Our experienced staff can recommend vanity, storage and vanity top options.

DESIGN TIP FOR THE DO-IT-YOURSELFER

If you’re designing your own kitchen, specific amounts of counter space should be devoted to certain activities and appliances for efficient operation:

Refrigerator – 15-18” of counter space on the latch side

Range – 24”of adjoining counter space

Oven – 18” of adjoining counter space

Food Preparation- 42” of counter space

The rule for combining space is to note the requirement for the different adjoining activities, select the widest space, and add 12” to it.
